Agnostic Religion?

Science seemingly has no trouble existing without God. But I’m rather convinced that God includes science. So who’s being more open and inclusive?

It seems there exist quite a few scientists who are troubled by the notion of religion and God. Yet, religions exist that claim no God.

One of our modern-day religions, Dudeism, was founded on a movie character, played by Jeff Bridges and called The Dude (The Big Lebowski). While Dudeism is often seen strictly as a spoof, its founder says otherwise. Oliver Benjamin says that the humor and laid-backness of the Dude is a perfect model for today’s uptight, divisive, stress-filled world. And further, that Dudeism is nothing more than a modern update on Taoism. Founder Benjamin is an atheist — which makes an interesting point, that God isn’t always required to be religious.

Then, of course, we have the emerging New Monasticism, perhaps exemplified by the monastery I founded, which resides on Medium.

My point is, there are ways to incorporate religious values into everyday life without necessarily asking God to take a bow on center stage. And let’s not forget that ever since man first started thinking about and talking to God, that entity has shape-shifted through a million different notions of what God is, or isn’t.

The main thing, in my opinion, is to relax, and do our best to keep our minds and hearts open.
