Contributions to Consciousness

I’m impressed by your essay on consciousness, Paul Ellis, in which you use the film Her to pry open some great issues. Might I suggest we copy that essay, with credit back to your site? I can enroll you as a contributing writer or, alternatively, copy/paste the post and then add your byline (as Gerben preferred). No pressure, of course… just thinking out loud.

Two things stand out for me. First, I’d love to hear your thoughts on mind and consciousness, in terms of where they reside. This would be a great essay, perhaps another in the monastery’s developing consciousness series.

Second, I encourage you, if you’re as intrigued as I am, to consider another essay that picks up where this one left off: with the notion that we are each an individual cell within the greater human body. My brother has been advocating this for years, even suggesting that most of us are residing in that greater body in certain places. So, for example, if we keep saying about some guy that he’s a total asshole, this gives us a sense of where he resides in the greater human body.

I think if collectively the monastery builds sufficient momentum, we can attract the interest of more formal researchers of consciousness, including quantum physicists, and even some anonymous mystics who are kinda out there on their own, and so on.

Perhaps collectively we can build a compelling body of work, as well as champion thinking and even practical exercises that help us deepen our understandings and lead us into deeper realizations and experiences.

You might enjoy this essay that Nicky Blue just published:
