Good points, Paul.
I think what rattles my cage is naïveté posing as a guru. It’s that battle of false equivalencies, where some app or a few ayahuasca journeys have brought that person to a place of depth that, intentionally or inadvertently, they project as the same as a master.
I have no problem agreeing that it is bringing them to a depth. And perhaps to a deeper depth than what they have ever experienced. And perhaps to a life-changing experience. All of which I support. But egos get in the way very quickly, don’t they?
Consequently, many of the men and women who have a greater and more comprehensive set of realizations get marginalized. And there are not that many of them around, and so this can be a bit of a treacherous game to play.
For me anyway, it goes to a fundamental weakness that socialization has allowed to creep in: the watering down, indeed the mummification, of discernment.
