It’s safe to say that there exist biases experienced by people who consider themselves empathic or sensitive. Sometimes it’s something that they themselves cause, what with conveying a new age form of airy fairy presence. Other times it’s because someone who is quiet or reserved is considered weak when compared to the standards of our hurry-up, goal-oriented society.

There is a truism that I’ve long been fond of: “slow and steady wins the race.” The idea, of course, being that some things take time to mature or yield results. For many people, however, no matter how much time goes by it seems the results aren’t forthcoming.

Until we (more collectively) start putting value on what we might call deeper or more everlasting ideals, these frustrations will only increase — in direct proportion to societal focus on immediate reward or satiation.
