One of my favorite parts of the writing arts occurs when a form of ‘call and response’ takes place. You and I, along with a few valued others, used to do this often back in the old blogging days.
This essay, to which you’ve commented, is partly in response to a couple of articles you’ve written lately, both of which I recommend.
Reconsidering Don Carlos, is one of them and the other is It’s Time We Admitted It. Each essay is strong, but together they intersect at this notion of utilizing martial arts strategies to overcome the helplessness that many people are experiencing as societies are shifting more toward the right, and bringing along with that shift some distressing forms of intolerance and growing lack of consideration.
Having read your comment here, I’m wondering if you’d consider publishing a piece here that expands on your own experiences in using Don Juan’s methods.
What is it that you and your friend John Patsalides employed so successfully? Or, when we’ve been defeated by the “petty tyrant”, what must we do to both gather ourselves and to not let it happen again?
For my own part, I hope to expand this particular essay with some realistic examples of everyday people ‘turning the tide’. I also hope I can find better ways to bring the principles and strategies of the martial arts to life, even as we continue to face the world of the unknown in realtime and in trying circumstances.
