My background is in Jiu Jitsu which clearly has its stoic aspects. In the context of the martial arts, we tend to describe stoic acceptance differently. We characterize it as having both the capability and courage to face the truth. Love is a higher principle within the arts. I don’t mean to convey that love is brushed aside until later in the curriculum. But in martial arts it is somewhat set aside until later, in order to devote a concentrated form of training on first learning how to not falter but rather stand up in the face of the truth. The truth can crush and wither you at times, so it’s no wonder that this major phase of training can take four to six years of focused study.
