The speculative seeds of consciousness

In my opinion, if we maintain belief in some form of God, then evolution should technically not be troubling to creationists. Because God is infinite, suspended in timelessness. Which means, as theologians and philosophers have often pointed out, that a million years to an infinite being can be but a moment. Hence the idea that seven billion years could be but seven days to the God of Genesis 1.

This notion of some kind of hand being behind evolution suggests that the slow percolation that emerges from growing a culture, that comes from planting a seed in a field, and then stepping back and letting Nature have her way, is something that takes its course over time. In this scenario, things just sort of play out, naturally.

But… when one or two or a hundred of those seeds gain conscious awareness, that really changes the game, doesn’t it?

Because the seed, armed with awareness, can short-cut evolution. Such a seed can be viewed as an intelligent and transformative entity, self-aware and pre-packed with the dense information of ‘God’s plan.’

I know such things are typically seen as highly speculative, if not outlandish. But are they? If we refuse to consider them, perhaps they never grow. On the other hand, if we allow our minds to consider the possibilities, are not the possibilities far more likely to emerge?
